Whiteside County Barn Tour
I was on the road this morning by 6:30 AM. It was pouring and when I got to the Halem exit I got off - ready to head back to Chicago. I read the The Chicagoland Digital Photography Meetup post again and it got me back on 290. Needless to say, I had the most amazing day hanging out with farmers of Dixon, IL and photographing their barns.
This was 7th annual Whiteside County Barn Tour, a fundraiser sponsored by the local farming communities, it featured 11 new barns to tour. It’s was great opportunity to talk to local farmers and capture images of barns that have been around for more than 100 years.
A new friend Cindy drove us around for 28 miles, where we saw a variety of architectural barn styles, beef and dairy cows, horses, vegetable gardens and fresh produce, chickens and antique farm equipment. Many of this year’s barns date back to the 1800s.
Because of the rain and in trying to round up everyone that was part of the Meetup, we, didn't leave barn 1 until around 10:00 AM. The tour started north of Sterling, IL in Dixon. The barns were open to the public from 9:00am-5:00pm.
I'm glad I made the 2 hour trip. It was totally worth it!
